Harris CapRock-O3b satcom solution boards Royal Caribbean cruise ships

Harris CapRock Communications and O3b Networks are taking their collaboration to the next level. The two companies will provide an advanced satellite communications solution to the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. cruise ship Allure of the Seas. They will also integrate systems aboard Allure‘s sister ship Oasis of the Seas.

The Harris CapRock-O3B collaborative solution combines Harris CapRock’s expertise in the integration of maritime systems and the low-latency Medium Earth Orbit satellite fleet unique to O3b. It allows Royal Caribbean to significantly boost guest experience and crew morale by presenting them with a broad range of consumer and enterprise satellite broadband applications.

In addition to installing stabilized satellite antenna systems, Harris CapRock will provide continuous, fully managed satellite services to the Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. Throughout their voyages, the two Royal Caribbean cruise ships will be able to enjoy high levels of dedicated bandwidth equal in speed and quality to fiber broadband.

Royal Caribbean awarded a five-year contract to Harris CapRock in May 2012. A fleet of 35 ships in the Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara Club Cruises brands were set to receive shipboard satellite communications services. So far, Harris CapRock has successfully uninstalled and installed more than 120 large satellite antenna system, which are essential components of the Royal Caribbean cruise fleet’s managed network service.
